I’ve booked my wedding venue, now what?! A quick wedding planning checklist.

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

You’ve secured your dream venue (Yay!!) and have your wedding countdown ticking away! This is where the fun starts! There are so many different aspects of a wedding to organise that it’s important to write a list and work through it methodically.

If the thought of this sends you into a fluster, then don’t panic; I’ve put together a very quick guide of key things to think about when planning your wedding:

✔ Create a detailed budget – if you haven’t already, you need to know what you have to spend & how that’s broken down

✔ Food & drink – especially if you’re using a marquee or barn and need to book outside caterers, you'll want to get this arranged early on

✔ The wedding dress – it needs to be ordered with plenty of time for it to be made & for any alterations to happen (usually at least 9 months before your wedding date)

✔ The photographer & videographer need booking so that you can ensure your special day will be captured to treasure forever

✔ Think about entertainment for the day & evening - are you booking a band? DJ? Both? Will you have live music during your ceremony?

✔ Decide on your theme – it may be a particular style like 'luxe boho' or it could simply be colour based - either way once you've settled on it you can then start looking at venue styling & décor

✔ Source a florist – if you want Pinterest worthy flowers you should get your ideal florist booked early - you may need to adjust your budget accordingly!

✔ Book a cake maker – attend a cake tasting (the best part of planning a wedding) & choose the cake design, remembering your event theme!

✔ Organise transport – especially if your ceremony and reception are being held at separate venues. You'll need to think of the Bride, Bridal party and possibly your guests too

✔ Design stationery/invites – these need to be sent out with plenty of time for RSVPs before caterers require final numbers, remembering that it can take at least a few weeks to have them printed professionally

✔ Book hair and make-up – book in a trial session too so that you are happy with how you will look on your big day, also make sure they’re comfortable working with the number of people in your bridal party!
